Makerspace Update: July 2026
Note From Joseph
Hi Friends,
With school out for the summer, I've finally been able to turn my focus toward something I've been excited about for a while — our home-grown makerspace operations software!
I believe good software can completely elevate the makerspace experience. That's why I released an open-source tool for makerspace managers called Eyra in 2023.
Since then, I've continued to think deeply and talk with colleagues all over the country about what the ultimate makerspace operations hub could look like. Now, with the help of our founder Sean, who has real experience shipping software, I have the opportunity to completely re-imagine Eyra and rebuild it from the ground up!
So what is Eyra, and why does it matter?
Think of it as the gamification, data, and management layer that sits on top of the makerspace itself. Everyone creates an account and it becomes your portal to all things The Atrium.
For students: it's a companion. It automatically tracks their progress, awards them certifications, achievements, and XP, all while building them a shareable portfolio they can send to employers, colleges, or friends to show off their maker prowess. Plus, it lets students take the makerspace home with them, offering remote engagement opportunities such as documenting a completed project, ideating through a new one, or planning their next certification.
For our team: it's mission control. Everything from scheduling workshops to issuing certifications to tracking usage metrics — all in one place.

I’m incredibly excited about the prototype we’ve been building out. I think it will revolutionize how students think about and engage with our makerspace. I hope this quick sneak peak gets you excited about what’s to come!
The Atrium in the News

Ever wondered how our ambitious project got started in the first place? North Far North recently published a wonderful feature on the origin story of The Atrium, and they did a beautiful job telling it! The piece outlines how our partnership with South Tahoe High School formed and where we see the project going from here. Check it out!
New Arrivals and Construction Update

No new tools to report this month - we've temporarily paused equipment purchases as we gear up for construction. Our contractors need the building cleared out for the first phase of work, so I'm holding off on additional tools for a bit.
On the construction side, we’re in the final stages of the permitting process, working closely with the city to address their final comments before breaking ground.
